More on FTS2000 Date: Fri, 30 Oct 1998 08:50:58 -0500 To: "AO - All Administrative Officers" From: "Alice A. Sabatini, Division Administrative Officer, WRD" Subject: More on FTS2000 Cc: "Robert F Wakelee, Network Manager, Reston, VA ", "Catherine L Hill, ACH/Operations, Reston, VA " The bureau is nearing the point where we will be able to identify most phone charges to cost center hierarchy codes. The following information regarding the percentage breakdown of the USGS FTS2000 bill was provided to me at this week's AMC meeting. I was surprised at the very low percent of our bill that is actually related to voice services. As a reminder, you will not be billed on actual usage this FY for FTS2000 because we don't have all of the information at the cost center level yet. We are optimistic that actual usage distributions will be possible in FY 2000. Breakdown of the USGS FTS2000 Billing 41.5% Data (dedicated circuits) 12.5% Calling card charges 3.5% 800 phone lines (e.g., 1-800-USA-MAPS) 1% Switched data services (where dedicated circuit doesn't exist--probably all WRD) 2% Packet services (x25 AT&T email) 1.5% Switched digital integration services (SDIS) (referred to as the services needed to route calls once they get into a building) .5% State and local taxes 35% Voice lines--exclusive use [like National Center] 2.5% Voice lines--shared [like Denver where GSA switches are used] Note: GSA surcharges are factored into the above percentages. Cost centers should also remember that their total phone costs also include local access which is usually billed by the local phone company (e.g., baby Bell company).
