Implementation of the Federal Personnel and Payroll System Date: Tue, 25 Nov 1997 18:21:39 -0500 To: "AO - All Administrative Officers", "TK - Time Keepers" From: "Alice A. Sabatini" Subject: Implementation of the Federal Personnel and Payroll System Cc: "Catherine L Hill, ACH/Operations, Reston, VA" I was informed today that the FPPS implementation schedule for the USGS has been finalized. The USGS will begin parallel testing beginning in pay period 08 (March 29, 1997) and will begin live implementation in pay period 11 (May 10, 1997). The payroll transition should be transparent for regular files. After the data files are received in HQ, they will be run through a conversion program to migrate the data to the new FPPS format. There is still an unresolved question with regard to correction (adjusted) T&As which are now submitted hard copy. We are working to resolve that issue and should hear more on this in January. More information will be forthcoming on training requirements and other changes related to this conversion as we proceed with our implementation plans. There is much that we do not know right now. The bureau has not been aggressive in moving toward implementation to date because of the problems with FPPS development and the constant slipping of dates. As we learn more, we will pass the information along with more specifics on what all of this means to our cost centers.
