Attachment ************************************************************************ Page 2, Fran White Paper "The Bottom Line" Maxiflex - used to create a flexible 5/4-9 or 4/10 Under true Maxiflex, a full time employee needs to report for work during core time unless on approved leave, credit or compensatory time off. There is no requirement to work the same number of hours per day or per week from one day, week or pay period to the next. Management can provide additional parameters under the rules of Maxiflex to create a flexible 5/4-9 or 4/10 schedule. This is the approach most often used within the USGS. The parameters necessary to create the flexibility and the general Maxiflex provisions are: --Establish core hours/days - you can either exempt the days of the week on which employees may take their AWS day off or you can state that core hours apply to every day of the week on which the employee is scheduled to work. --Establish the arrival/departure/flexilunch time bands - these need not comply with the current USGS Gliding Schedule, but must comply to any division/regional restrictions. --Determine if, when and how credit hours may be earned--address the need for supervisory approval to earn a maximum number per day or pay period. Note: For timekeeping purposes, credit hours accrue on a pay period basis after the employee has worked their biweekly requirement. The maximum carry over remains 24 for FT employees and 1/4 of the biweekly work requirement for PT employees. --Determine the maximum number of hours employees may work per day and the number of hours employees may be off per week or pay period. You may allow employees to choose between 5/4-9 and 4/10 in consultation with individual supervisors, or you may determine to choose one plan or the other for the entire office. --Determine restrictions or exemptions based on office needs or the nature of the position and provide for at least 2 levels of review. --Employees may only be paid up to 8 hours for a holiday regardless of the number of hours scheduled for that day.
