Mark will: (1) provide oversight for the 75 USGS stations in the National Atmospheric Deposition Program (NADP)/National Trends Network (NTN); (2) coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and numerous other organization concerning the NADP stations; and (3) coordinate atmospheric deposition issues for OWQ. Mark will be located at the Denver Federal Center. Mark brings deep knowledge of atmospheric deposition and the NADP/NTN to his new role. Since 1990, Mark has supervised the Acid-Rain Quality-Assurance Project in the Branch of Technical Development and Quality Systems, which provides the external quality assurance for the NADP/NTN. During this period, Mark also met and worked with nearly all of the other agency people responsible for coordinating NADP/NTN. Doug Glysson has accepted a detail OWQ to: (1) coordinate technical discipline reviews; (2) represent OWQ on a three-office effort to develop guidelines for conducting multi-discipline technical reviews; (3) serve as the focal point for OWQ communication with the Regions; and (4) oversee surface water, water-quality instrument and sampling methods development. Doug brings a wide range of experience to this position. He has served in field, subdistrict, district, and regional offices as well as the Offices of Water Quality and Surface Water, and most recently in the Office of Water Data Coordination (OWDC). In OWDC, Doug was involved with the Intergovernmental Task Force on Monitoring Water Quality which developed a National strategy for improving water quality monitoring in the United States. Mark and Doug assume their details in part to replace Paul Kapinos, who retired on October 3, 1996, following a 28-year career with USGS; and John Gray, who recently transferred to the Office of Surface Water.
