USGS Implementation of DOI Travel Reinvention Lab Recommendations Date: Wed, 24 Sep 1997 15:13:07 -0400 To: "USGS Employees" From: USGS Office of Financial Management Subject: USGS Implementation of DOI Travel Reinvention Lab Recommendations Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" All Employee Notification: The USGS Office of Financial Management (OFM) has issued Instructional Memorandum (IM) 97-09 which outlines travel process changes being implemented effective October 1, 1997, as a result of the DOI Travel Reinvention Lab. The most important change is that USGS travelers (with supervisory approval) may now use an annual limited open travel authorization (TDL). If your supervisor approves use of the TDL for you, this means you need only a single travel authorization for all travel during the fiscal year. This can include foreign, training, meeting and conference travel. You should note that the change to general use of TDL's for conference, meetings, training and foreign travel does not change other existing policies, procedures, and approval requirements for these travel circumstances. A hard copy of the instructional memorandum will be distributed by the normal Survey Manual process, but you may access it directly on the USGS Intranet, at the Office of Program Support (OPS) URL (http://www.usgs.gov:8888/ops/finance/travel.html). The IM is located under the Travel "What's New" heading and contains 4 attachments: 1) Roles and responsibilities of employees with regard to travel 2) Example showing how to fill out the Annual TDL 3) Instruction sheet for completion of Annual Limited Open Travel Authorization 4) A summary of all DOI Travel Lab recommendations and their implementation within USGS (The attachments are in pdf format, and require your browser to have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed.) Any questions regarding the new procedures can be directed to the Travel Management Branch Helpline on 703-648-7614. Please share this information with any employees who do not have email access.
