NTC hotel follow up To: "E - All WRD Employees" Subject: NTC hotel follow up Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Date: Wed, 30 Oct 1996 20:41:10 +0000 From: "William J Shampine, Chief, Br. Tech Dev & Qual Sys, Denver, CO" Last Wednesday, the NTC announced a change in arrangements for the hotel to be used by the NTC students. The change was from the Holiday Inn on Colfax to the Holiday Inn - Lakewood (located at the intersection of Wadsworth Avenue and Hampden Ave (Rt 285). I have a bit more information to pass along. The room rate we mentioned in the email of Oct. 23 was $67, which included tax. We have made arrangements, however, so that USGS personnel will not have to pay the tax. Therefore, the room rate will be $62 per night, which will include the free amenities of a breakfast buffet, daily drink in the lounge, and a daily newspaper. In addition to the other amenities listed in the email of Oct. 23, they also provide a free guest pass to two health clubs in the area (for those of you interested in a serious workout). TO FACILITATE THE SMOOTH OPERATION, YOU ARE ASKED TO : (1) tell them you are with the USGS when you make your reservation and (2) pay with the Government American Express card if possible (there are tax implications here). If you do not have a Government card, however, don't worry about it; pay the bill in whatever way you normally pay. I have received several questions from people trying to stay at the Holiday Inn on Colfax who have been unable to get the $40 rate. The Hotel will honor the $40 room rate during November, but only for students in an NTC course. Non-students will have to pay the Hotel's standard Government rate of $79. The $62 rate at the Holiday Inn - Lakewood, however, is valid now and we recommend that you stay there in order to save some money. The Lakewood facility is 7.1 miles from the NTC, whereas the Colfax facility was 4.1 miles, so it really is not much further. Although these arrangements have been negotiated only for the NTC, the Hotel is willing to offer the same rate to ALL USGS employees. The rate is valid even if you are not on official business, simply traveling in the area. We look forward to working under the new arrangements and think you will be pleased with the Hotel. The staff already have been very helpful in working out the tax issue. The telephone number of the Hotel is 303-980-9200 and Colleen Binder, as the Director of Sales and Marketing, would be a contact if you have questions about the hotel or are having problems. If you have any questions on these arrangements, please don't hesitate to contact me. I can be reached at 303-236-4935 or by email at shampine@usus.gov Bill Shampine
