Admin. Mgmt. Sys., Reston, VA" Memorandum To: WRD A,B,DC,AO,DA Distribution From: Division OPS Council Representative Subject: Common Financial Desktop Survey Form REPLY due by COB August 18, 1997 Over the years, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has employed various methods to obtain information essential for financial management. Data from the Federal Financial System (FFS) serves as a starting point, but each division has had to take steps to augment this data to provide the complete picture necessary for financial management. Recently, the USGS Operations Council has chartered a team to investigate the feasibility of establishing a 'Common Financial Desktop' (CFD) to support all USGS divisions in their financial management needs. (For more information, see the CFD Team charter and initial concept paper at the web site listed below). Representatives from all divisions and multiple geographic locations have been assigned to the CFD Team. Listed below are the CFD Core Team members, who can be contacted for any questions you may have on this project: Name Division Responsibility Herb Freiberger WRD Co-Chair John Walbert OPS Co-Chair Ernest Brunson NMD System Analysis & Testing Team Leader Larry Ferris BRD Functionality Team Leader Isabelle Halley desFontaines WRD Technical Team Leader Vicki Koehmstedt GD End-User Needs Team Leader Carl Shapiro DO Cost Team Leader As an initial step in defining the CFD, a survey has been developed to collect input from throughout the USGS regarding the requirements for the Budget Planning and Execution module of the CFD. To help the CFD Team in identifying your financial management needs, please invest some time in completing the CFD survey form. Also, please forward this memo to other individuals in your organization that you think should provide input/comments. We are relying on you to quickly get the word out to those personnel, providing them with ample time to respond. The survey can be completed at: http://interactive.usgs.gov/cfd/cfd-survey.html All responses are due by August 18, 1997. If your office does not have access to the USGS intranet, you can have a copy of the CFD survey faxed to you by dialing (703) 648-4888 and following the instructions. The CFD survey can be accessed by choosing option 1 (news releases and other information) and then requesting document number 9300. If completing the survey manually, it should be returned to Vicki Koehmstedt, Mail Stop-918 in Reston (or Fax 703-648-6560). Your input will be valuable in helping shape the future of financial management at USGS. Additional information on the CFD are available at the CFD web site: http://www.usgs.gov:8888/ops/finance/comfindesk/cfd.html
