Hirsch Chief Hydrologist Subject: 1997 NAGT/USGS Cooperative Summer Field Training Program REPLY DUE BY OCTOBER 21, 1996 The 1996 NAGT/USGS Cooperative Summer Field Training Program has come to a close. I have reviewied the program evaluations from the student assistants and their supervisors, and once again, it is apparent that the program has been a positive experience for the students and the Water Resources Division. I want to congratulate you for your assistance in accomplishing the goal of the program, which is to provide a professional "hands-on" field experience for the participants. As in previous summers, the participants are graduating seniors who completed an A.B. or B.S. Geoscience degree, and who performed in an outstanding manner in a summer geology field camp. The best qualified participants are hired at the GS-5 level and are given temporary full-time appointments, not to exceed September 30. Over the years, this program has provided us with highly qualified employees who have experience in a university field camp. After assessing your needs for the summer of 1997, please contact your Regional Hydrologist or Assistant Chief Hydrologist, through appropriate channels, with your needs NO LATER THAN OCTOBER 21, 1996. You are reminded that this request will be a firm commitment for the summer of 1997. I strongly encourage you to continue your participation in this worthwhile program. If you have any questions, please email Charlene T. Simpson (ctsimpso).
