Specialist, Reston, VA" FYI - HQ Personnel Office received a call recently re an employee who had not had a chance to use a time off award and, after a year, the time off award disappeared. Under OPM's old regs (and ours), time off awards were only good for one year. If an employee didn't take the time off within a year, the employee lost it. However, under 5 CFR 451, the requirement to use a time off award within a year was eliminated when OPM revised its award regs in August 1995. Thus, there is now no limit on how long an employee has to use a time off award. While Pay Pers at first did not get the word that time off awards no longer expire, they have been notified of the changes and have agreed to make corrections to the system in Pay Period 14. At the same time, they will also provide Personnel with a list of any employees who may have lost a time off award because Pay Pers deleted it after one year. If you have employees who have erroneously lost a time off award they haven't used, the timekeeper will have to reenter the award into the T&A system in order for the employee to use it.
