Payroll Information From: "Virginia Miles" Message-Id: <961231093958.ZM7911@vmiles> Date: Tue, 31 Dec 1996 09:39:57 -0400 X-Mailer: Z-Mail 4.0.1 (4.0.1 Apr 9 1996) To: "USGS Employees" Subject: Payroll Information Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit The Director excused USGS employees from work at 1:00 PM local time on December 24, 1996. Employees who were at work at 1:00 PM local time should be granted administrative leave for the number of hours that they were scheduled to work after 1:00 PM. Administrative Leave, hours code 060, should be entered on the employee's T&A for pay period 97-02 for the number of excused hours. The amount of time granted depends on the time the employee was scheduled to work; e.g., if the employee was working from 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM that day, they would be granted 2 hours administrative leave; if the employee was working from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, they would be granted 4 1/2 hours administrative leave. Only employees who were at work that day should be granted administrative leave. Employees who were on approved leave for the day are not granted the administrative leave. Employees should also be aware that there are 27 pay periods in the 1997 pay year, which means that they will have one additional pay check during the year. Because they will receive more gross income during the year, more Federal tax withholdings will be taken from their salary check each pay period beginning with pay period 97-01, paid January 2, 1997. This increase is based on the required Federal income tax withholding formula. Employees should expect to see less net pay in their first pay check of the year.
