The following is a brief summary of her background and past experience. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Laura Shelton, the new administrative officer in Michigan, is originally from Detroit, Michigan, but she has lived all over the United States. Her husband, Tom, is preparing to retire from the Army with over 24 years of service. They are looking forward to settling down in Michigan. Laura started her government service with the Army on active duty in 1977, working in Classified Communications. In 1980, she joined the Army Reserves and worked in Administration and Finance for almost 9 years. She began her Civil Service with the Army Reserves in 1985 as a Maintenance Administrative Technician and later worked as an Unit Administrator. In 1987, she started working for the Army Corps of Engineers as a Support Services Supervisor. After a short haitus from federal service, she reentered government service in 1994 with the Army as a Military Personnel Clerk and later as a Military Personnel Technician. She joined the USGS as the Michigan District Administrative Officer in November 1996. Laura says that she is excited about being here and tackling this challenging job. She is looking forward to meeting all of you.
