Sabatini /signed/ Administrative Officer, WRD Subject: Imprest Fund Pilot Program The U.S. Geological Survey was asked by the Department of Treasury to participate in a pilot program of the Imprest Fund starting June 1, 1997, through July 31, 1997. The purpose being to review Imprest Fund activity for determining alternative methods that could be utilized instead of using the Imprest Fund. The Water Resources Division (WRD) sites that were selected by WRD Headquarters and the Office of Financial Management (OFM) are Sacramento, California; Lemoyne, Pennsylvania; and Reston Headquarters' Imprest Fund. OFM believes that this pilot period will be a good indication of types of situations that will be experienced during the field season allowing Fund cashiers to document other means of payment that could have been employed instead of cash. The Fund cashiers at these 3 sites have been provided with separate log sheets for the following transactions: SF1028, Request for Travel Advance; SF1164, Claim for Reimbursement; and SF1165, Receipt for Cash. Cashiers have been asked to enter each request they receive on the appropriate log, along with the suggested alternative method payment that could be used. At the end of the pilot period timeframe, OFM will analyze the data and make recommendations to Treasury concerning alternative payment mechanisms where it is determined that only cash would be possible. We will keep you informed as information becomes available.
