Call for Agenda Items for the Upcoming National AO Meeting To: "AO - All Administrative Officers" Subject: Call for Agenda Items for the Upcoming National AO Meeting Date: Wed, 04 Dec 1996 17:17:40 -0500 From: "Alice A Sabatini, Administrative Officer, Reston, VA" REPLY REQUESTED BY DECEMBER 20, 1996 We are planning for a National AO meeting in May (either the week of May 5 or 12th) in Orlando, FL. The meeting will be focused on training this time. We have planned a three-day meeting (Tuesday through Thursday) with time on either Monday or Friday for regional meetings. While the meeting has not been formally approved by the senior staff or the Director yet, we are optimistic that it will be held. Please mark your calendar for these dates. One administrative officer or their designee from each district/field cost center is invited to attend. In addition, there will be selected attendees from Headquarters. It will be necessary to limit attendance because of the size of our group. The first day will be devoted to assessment training which will provide an overview of the policies and detailed information on implementation procedures. The second day consist of training on appropriations law. The third day is open at this time and we are soliciting your ideas on how best to fill that time. We have considered the following: Procurement issues--Ask John Peterson to brief the group on pending or new legislation and the changes in the DOI warrant program. If the bureau AO meeting has taken place, ask John to brief the group on pending procurement changes in the USGS. Travel reinvention--Ask Tim Calkins to attend to discuss the travel reinvention effort and the pending changes for USGS. Payroll--Ask the payroll group chaired by Nancy Bley to provide an overview of the material included in the payroll manual that they have been preparing. Panel discussion of the new system with participants from offices that are pilot testing. Human resources issues--Ask Skip Schmidt to address the group on pending human resources issues such as the implementation of Proclass. Panel discussion on administrative reviews--panel members would be the AOs whose offices have been reviewed to discuss the positives, negatives and lessons learned from the reviews. Panel discussion on accounts receivable--panel members would be AOs that have made significant improvement in billing and collection and other AOs that have tried several things without much success. Each of these topic areas will focus on training rather than information dissemination that could be done via email or memorandum. Please provide feedback on any of these topics ("I'd really like that", or "I don't think that would be beneficial") and any additional areas of interest to Dave Madril (email dcmadril) by December 20, 1996. We are also seeking volunteers to volunteer to work on the meeting or to coordinate after hours activities. Please let Dave know if you are interested. This is your meeting. Please work with us to make it the best one yet.
