Subject: EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION PROPOSALS

I've recently received a number of requests for information from the
project directors who submitted Excellence in Education Proposals at the
end of July.  I'm sorry that I haven't been able to communicate the results
of the Committee's decisions to all of you, but we are currently awaiting
information on the actual level of appropriations for the educational
outreach projects.  Until we know exactly what the funding level will be,
we will not know for sure how many proposals will be funded and at what
level.  Therefore, the USGS Associate Director for Operations has requested
that the Education Committee members not release any award information at
this time.  I know that it's difficult to wait so long, but please be
assured that I will notify everyone as soon as possible!!  Thank you for
your patience.
