REASSIGNMENT OF JOHN GRAY TO THE OFFICE OF SURFACE WATER To: "E - All WRD Employees" cc: "Thomas H Yorke Jr., Chief, Office of Surface Water, Reston, VA" , "David A Rickert, Chief, OWQ, Reston, VA" Subject: REASSIGNMENT OF JOHN GRAY TO THE OFFICE OF SURFACE WATER Date: Tue, 11 Jun 1996 10:21:38 -0400 From: "Thomas H Yorke Jr., Chief, Office of Surface Water, Reston, VA" I am very pleased to announce the reassignment of John Gray to the staff of the Office of Surface Water (OSW) effective June 16, 1996. John's broad experience in surface water, sediment, and water quality activities will be a valuable addition to the capabilities of OSW and will further enhance the close working relationship between OSW and the Office of Water Quality. I am looking forward to working with John to enhance the fluvial sediment programs of the Water Resources Division. John has a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from Northern Illinois University and a Master's Degree in Hydrosystems (Civil) Engineering from the University Illinois. He began his USGS career in 1977 as a hydrologic technician in Dekalb, Illinois, where he was responsible for collecting and analyzing streamflow, sediment, and water-quality data in northern Illinois. As a hydrologist in Dekalb and subsequently in the Urbana, Illinois, District Office, John worked on several projects including hydraulic relations for the Illinois Waterway, water-quality and sedimentary characteristics of urban streams, and landform modifications at a low-level radioactive-waste burial site. In 1987, following nine months of sedimentology studies through the WRD Graduate School Training Program, he transferred to Tucson Subdistrict Office, Arizona. His work in the southwest included investigating the sources and fate of sediment-bound radionuclides in ephemeral streams, and suspended-sediment and bedload characteristics of the Colorado River in Grand Canyon and selected tributaries. John also conceived and oversaw development and initial testing of SEDCALC, the Division's computer program for calculating suspended-sediment discharges. In 1991, John moved to Reston to serve as Staff Assistant to the Director for a 2-year period. Since 1993, he has served as the Surface Water Quality Specialist in the Office of Water Quality. He also served as the Acting Assistant Chief of OWQ for 15 months. Please join me in welcoming John to the Office of Surface Water.
