I am pleased to announce that Steve Blanchard has accepted a reassignment as
Deputy Assistant Chief Hydrologist for Operations.  Steve began his career
with the U.S. Geological Survey as a hydrologist in the Virginia District in
1978.  In 1980, he joined the National Research Program in Reston, working on
the Potomac Estuary Study until 1987.  During this period, Steve spent a year
in Water Resources Division's Graduate School Program, earning a Masters'
Degree in Water Resources Engineering from Oregon State University.  Steve
transferred to the Illinois District to work on the Upper Illinois River Basin
Pilot National Water Quality Assessment (NAWQA) Project.  He became NAWQA
Project Chief in 1988 and District Chief in 1991. 

Steve's commitment to quality and customer service as well as his background
in operational issues and his experience as a senior District Chief, will be
of benefit to the entire division.  Steve plans to report as Deputy Assistant
Chief Hydrologist for Operations in mid-August.
