Hill Assistant Chief Hydrologist for Operations Subject: Policy for Utilization of Room BC214 Recently there have been a lot of materials arbitrarily placed in the Water Resources Division (WRD) storage area, Room BC214. This area was acquired to eliminate safety hazards by removing the bookcases, filing cabinets and boxes from the hallways. In order to keep the area under control, approval must be given by the Management Support Section before storing any items in this area. If you have already placed any material in this room, please make sure it is properly labeled with the name of the office, a contact name and telephone number on the front of each item. The following policy is established for the use of WRD storage space (Room BC214) and is effective immediately: 1. Consider sending records to the Washington National Records Center. They will be accepted by item number as listed in U. S. Geological Survey General Records Disposition Schedule. 2. If not appropriate for storage in the Records Center, consider transferring to the warehouse in Herndon. The warehouse will store any items which offices consider important and will be utilized in the future. 3. If material is needed for distribution or referenced on a frequent basis, a request to store the items should be sent to the Chief, Management Support Section (Connie Magaha, MS 403) indicating the length of time the items will need to be stored. Approval must be given by the Chief, Management Support Section, before items can be stored in this storage area. 4. After items have been approved for storage, a label should be placed on front of each item. The label should contain the name of the office, a contact and telephone number. Sample of label: Management Support Section, Contact: Connie Magaha, ext. 5037. Thank you for assisting us in this effort.
