Hill Assistant Chief Hydrologist for Operations Subject: PROGRAMS AND PLANS--Availability of On-Line Official Memorandums Water Resources Division (WRD) Memorandum No. 96.01 stated "... starting in fiscal year 1996, all official Water Resources Division (WRD) numbered memorandums are to be stored electronically on a centralized server. This includes WRD memorandums from the Offices of Ground Water, Water Quality, Surface Water, and Systems Analysis, technical memorandums, and other miscellaneous numbered memorandums." (WRD) numbered memorandums are ile. available to all WRD employees on the Web at URL http://wwwoper.er.usgs.gov/memos. Numbered memorandums from the Offices of Ground Water, Water Quality, Surface Water, and Systems Analysis, Safety, and other miscellaneous numbered memorandums that resided on the Prime system have been moved over to the Data General (DG) server (qvarsx). Some of these memorandums date as far back as 1957. At present, WRD numbered memorandums are available electronically from 1995 ONLY. In prior years there was no electronic version of WRD numbered memorandums, and only the abstract is displayed on the Web. As time and human resources allow, memorandums from past years will be converted to an electronic format and moved to the Web page. Attachment 1 describes how to access and use the Web page. ATTACHMENT 1 How to Access Memorandums using the World Wide Web Invoke the Web using your favorite browser and Open URL; http://wwwoper.er.usgs.gov/memos The WRD memorandums page is divided into 5 sections: The user can do a word search against the entire text of memorandums in Section I and IV. The search can be done (1) against WRD Official numbered memorandums from the Technical Offices, and the Assistant Chief Hydrologist for Operations or (2) against reference memorandums. Reference memorandums include administrative, informational, and policy memorandums coming from multiple sources such as the Director, or Operational Support offices, the Department of the Interior, other U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) divisions, as well as any offices within WRD which issue memorandums to the entire division. Section I is divided in two parts: I.1 allows the user to retrieve and print copies of WRD official numbered memorandums. These memorandums are arranged by fiscal year. This section is a repository of ALL memorandums, current, historical and deleted. I.2 allows the user to access current memorandums ONLY, grouped by discipline. This section is available to the public Section II points to the National Water Quality Laboratory (NWQL) numbered memorandums. Section III points to the Hydrologic Instrumentation Facility memorandums Section IV allows the user to retrieve and print copies of reference memorandums. These memorandums are arranged by fiscal year. Reference memorandums include administrative, informational, and policy memorandums coming from multiple sources such as the Director, or Operational Support offices, the Department of the Interior, other USGS divisions, as well as any Offices within WRD which issue memorandums to the entire division. Section V is a 100-page Quick Index that was generated from the Prime Memos data base. This data base was maintained by Operations and contained index information on memorandums issued by WRD and other USGS divisions. The information spanned calendar years 1963 through April of 1995.
