Original Date: March 26, 1996 From: DOI Offic of Managing Risk and Public Safety, PMB To: All DOI Employees Subject: DOI Occupational Safety and Health Seminar For More Information Contact: Marcy Rogers (mrogers@ios.doi.gov) MEMORANDUM This message announces the 1996 DOI Occupational Safety and Health Seminar, to be held April 28 - May 2 at the Red Lion Hotel, Seattle Airport, Seattle, Washington. FY 96 has been a trying year, especially because of the awkward budget situation most of us currently face. The Secretary and the senior Departmental leadership continue to be firmly committed to creating a safe and healthful working environment for Interior employees and others. The annual DOI Occupational Safety and Health Seminar is an important tool in this effort, providing, in some cases, the only training that some full-time and collateral-duty safety professionals receive all year. It also presents opportunities for presentation of topics not normally covered in other training. Because of the late date of this announcement and the need to complete Seminar planning, it is imperative that you register as quickly as possible using the information below. While it is our intent to proceed with the Seminar, the possibility continues to exist that it may be cancelled due to the budget situation within the Office of the Secretary. Any decision to cancel the Seminar will be made not later than March 18, 1996. Because the Seminar is solely funded through registration fees, it is critical that we have a reasonable attendance estimate to provide to our management. So, if there is a likelihood you will attend, please call in to preregister. We are hoping that you all will make a special effort to attend this year's Seminar. See you in Seattle! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The 1996 Occupational Safety and Health Seminar will be held at the Red Lion Hotel, Seattle Airport, Seattle, Washington, from April 28 - May 2, 1996. You can make your reservations by calling the Red Lion Hotel at 206-246-8600. Rooms have been blocked under "U.S. Department of the Interior." Be sure to tell the person taking your reservation. The hotel offers in-room coffee makers, remote control TV, swimming pool, complimentary parking, 24-hour front desk, complimentary airport shuttle service and a complete health club. Rooms will be held until April 1, 1996. After that date, reservations will be accepted on a space available basis. However, the extension of the government rate is at the sole discretion of the hotel. The registration fee for the 1996 Seminar is $200.
