Eaton Director Subject: Observance of National Women's History Month March has been designated National Women's History Month. We welcome this opportunity to reflect on the contributions women have made and continue to make to our history, our families, our workplace, and especially the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). I applaud all of you for strengthening this organization through your achievements. The USGS, as part of its efforts to honor National Women's History Month, will present a training program conducted by Dr. Carolyna Smiley-Marquez, a nationally recognized consultant specializing in intercultural communications and conflict resolution. Dr. Smiley-Marquez earned her Ph.D. in Social and Multicultural Foundations of Education. She is the founder of Multicultural Mediators Affiliated Diversity Associates International and the president of her own firm, Smiley & Co. Her company provides consultation, training, and expert witness services to both the Federal Government and the private sector. Clients include U.S. West, AT&T, American Indian Science and Engineering Society, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Government Accounting Office, Hispanic Leadership Institutes, and the National Judicial College. The training, "Woman to Woman: Intercultural Communications," will be offered in the USGS Visitors Center Auditorium on Wednesday, March 27, 1996, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. Seating is limited and will be available on a first come, first served basis. An interpreter for the deaf will be provided. This training is creditable towards the supervisory and managerial Equal Employment Opportunity training requirement. To receive credit, you need to complete an SF-182 and submit the form to the Training Office, MS 601. All employees are invited and encouraged to participate in this training with prior supervisory approval.
