This year's theme is entitled "African American Women: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow." As Americans, it is essential for us to reflect on the various contributions made by the different cultures that have shaped our nation. Through countless recorded and unrecorded ways, African American Women have played and continue to play a critical role in every sphere of our life. African American Women have been leaders, not only in securing their own rights of equal opportunity, but also in the abolitionist movement, the civil rights movement and other movements which continue to mold our society and workforce. Like a tightly woven cloth, our society has always built upon the strengths of diverse individuals including the African American Woman. We salute their accomplishments and look forward to tomorrow's contributions. I personally encourage all managers, supervisors and employees to actively join us in celebrating National African American History Month. Signed: February 5, 1996
