Williams Acting Personnel Officer Subject: Ethics Training A series of video presentations will be offered concerning standards of conduct and conflict-of-interest regulations in the Human Resources Conference Room (located near the Training Office, across from the Health Unit) at the dates and times described below. Any employees who would like further information about outside work requests, receipt of honoraria, acceptance of gifts, post-employment restrictions, acting impartially, use of official information, and similar topics are welcome to attend these sessions. Those employees who are required to fill out financial disclosure review forms (SF-450s and SF-278s) are required to complete 1 hour of mandatory ethics training per year; attendance at one of the scheduled sessions will meet this training requirement. Employees may choose between two different types of video presentations: 1. The morning sessions will present a 1-hour video of a satellite broadcast prepared by a consortium of ethics officials from a number of Federal agencies. Small panel groups field questions about a variety of ethics topics in a factual, no-nonsense manner. 2. The afternoon sessions will present two 20-minute videotapes, followed by a 20-minute question-and-answer session. One videotape was prepared by the Office of Government Ethics; actors demonstrate ethics concepts through illustration of typical office situations. The second videotape was prepared by the Department of Defense, and takes a light-hearted and somewhat humorous approach to presenting ethics information. Both videotapes communicate valuable ethics information in a comprehensive way. Dates and times of these video presentations are as follows: Dates: August 5, 7, 9, 12, 14, 16, 19, 21, 23. Times: 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. In addition to these video presentations, individuals may meet their 1-hour training requirement by reviewing a series of interactive ethics training diskettes prepared by ethics officials of the Department of the Interior. Employees can check out a set of the diskettes by contacting Stephanie Parle at X7422 or Lynda Vincent at X7419. Employees may use the diskettes on their own computers, working at their own pace to complete at least 5 of the 7 diskettes. Each diskette takes from 10-15 minutes to complete. Following completion of the training, employees will be asked to sign a self-certification form which states that they have completed the training. We cannot guarantee that the video presentations will be given again this calendar year. Therefore, we encourage any interested employees to take advantage of the opportunity to review them at one of the times and dates noted above. If you have questions or concerns regarding this matter, please contact Stephanie Parle at X7422.
