Subject:  Asian American/Pacific Islander Heritage Month Activities

May has been designated as Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month.  The 
theme for this year's celebration is Asian Pacific American - One 
Vision, One Mission, One Voice.  

The Department's Special Emphasis Observance Committee has planned three 
events during May to honor Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders.

Thursday, May 9, 10 a.m. - 11 a.m.

	Speaker:	Richard L. Albores, Staff Attorney, National
			Asian Pacific American Legal Consortium

			Welcome and introduction will be from
			Dr. Dennis Fenn, Deputy Director, National
			Biological Service

	Topic:		Environmental Justice Act:  Asian Impact

	Location:	Large Buffet Room, MIB


Wednesday, May 29, 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

	Speakers:	Round Table discussion with Interior Deputy
			Secretary Garamendi, Deputy Director of
			Insular Affairs Aranza, and invited guests
			from the White House and Capitol Hill

	Topic:		Issues Affecting Asian Americans/Pacific
			Islanders:  The Administration's View

	Location:	Large Buffet Room, MIB


Tuesday, June 4, 10 a.m. - 11 a.m.

	Speaker:	Dr. William Mokahi Steiner, Director, Pacific
			Islands Science Center, National Biological
			Service

	Topic:		The New Kahunas:  Biology, Culture, and Re-
			Establishing the Imperative in the Sandwiche
			Islands

			The presentation will include slides of
			Hawaii
