March 18, 1996 MEMORANDUM TO: DOI Washington Metropolitan Area Employees FROM: E. Melodee Stith (Signed) Director, Office for Equal Opportunity SUBJECT: Recruitment of Volunteers for the Department's Collateral Duty, Equal Employment Opportunity Counseling (EEO) Program. We are in need of volunteers to provide EEO counseling services to our employees. Counselors interact with employees throughout the Department to attempt to resolve employment disputes. This interaction involves interviewing the parties involved, facilitating resolutions, and writing reports. The EEO staff will work closely with counselors and provide technical guidance. As an EEO counselor, you would serve on a collateral duty basis; meaning that your counseling duties would be in addition to your regular position, and would entail less than 20% of your official time. The Department will provide all of the necessary training, prior to officially counseling employees. We respectfully request the support and permission of your supervisor in performing this additional function. This is a rewarding experience and an excellent opportunity to enhance your communication skills. Please contact Todd Birkenruth, Office for Equal Opportunity, Main Interior Building, Room 5026, by April 15, 1996. We sincerely appreciate your interest in serving in this vital program. If you have any questions or need assistance, please call Mr. Birkenruth on (202)-208-3442.
