emergency message pager access To: "DA - All Data General System Administrators" cc: "John M Yost, Computer Specialist, Reston, VA" Subject: emergency message pager access Date: Fri, 15 Dec 1995 11:05:24 -0500 From: "Robert F Wakelee, Computer Specialist, Reston, VA" With the possibility of another shutdown, this is just to let you know that Daphne and myself can be reached by message pager. This should be considered for emergency purposes as we don't carry it all the time. However, I would actually appreciate a "beep" anytime there are problems with the WAN network or is you can't reach anyone here during the day about a network problem by phone. 1. Login into any DG workstation that mounts from either qvarsx or disqvarsa (most any DIS system). 2. At the prompt type beeper ______ "message goes here" You can use either wakelee for Bob and daphne for Daphne. Example: beeper daphne "This is a test to see if the beeper system is operational?" Make sure that you use "" around the message. Each message cannot exceed 240 characters but you can send multiple messages. The message will include your unix user id, so you don't need to include your name if the same. Please try to be as specific as possible as we may not be anywhere near systems or email. Alternately, if the network is out, you can call in a message: 1. from a phone: Call 1-800-SKY-8888 2. enter pager number: Bob is 1745946 Daphne is 1745947 3. use the option (#3 I believe) for operator assistance and give them a message of up to 240 characters.
