Fairfax County Police and the Federal Protective Service (FPS) have concurrent jurisdiction of this area. Recently, the Security Management Office and the contract guard service have received several complaints concerning individuals speeding on this section of the roadway. Please be advised that the posted speed limit on USGS Drive is 25 mph. With the numerous parking lot entrances/exits bordering this small area, speeding has resulted in undue traffic safety problems. An accident which occurred at the intersection of USGS Drive and parking lot H is the most recent example. Please be aware that FPS may occasionally establish speed surveillance which could result in moving violation tickets. FPS may also issue tickets for other than speed violations, such as expired driver's licenses, expired tags, or failure to wear safety restraints, with fines starting at $25. If you have any questions, please call Kathi Evans on extension 4429 or E-mail at kkevans@usgs.gov.
