As part of the yearly Chief Financial Officer's Act requirements, the IG's office will be conducting an audit of certain aspects of the property program. Specifically, the auditors indicated they would be performing existence sampling (to verify that accountable items are actually in the locations indicated by the property system), and checking for compliance with the property regulations, including the requirement to complete a full physical inventory and certify that such was completed. We were informed by the auditors that anything other than full compliance with the property regulations will call into question the financial information pertaining to property in the FFS. Locations for existence sampling are yet to be determined; however, the auditors advised that they would be performing sampling in Reston and Denver at a minimum, beginning early September. Accordingly, please take any steps necessary to ensure that any Accountable Property Officers who have not yet certified that their Custodial Property Officers have completed this year's inventory, do so immediately. Also, all employees should be notified that auditors may be contacting them about an on-site visit to check on the location of their accountable property.
