Rutledge Acting Personnel Officer Subject: Performance Management and Awards Briefings The Office of Personnel Management has approved the Department of the Interior's new two-level performance management system. The new system must be implemented by all bureaus by January 1, 1996. In addition, the Department has approved a new awards system that is available for immediate use. Janis Nash, Office of Personnel, and Skip Schmidt, Water Resources Division, will conduct two briefings on the new systems on Friday, December 1, 1995, in the National Center auditorium. The first session will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the second session will begin at 1:00 p.m. Both sessions are open to all employees and are on a first-come, first-served basis. For now, these are the only scheduled briefings in Reston. The briefings will describe how the new performance appraisal system works, how to prepare performance plans, the new rating cycle, transition to the new system, how the new awards system works, and the different types of awards available. Handouts, including the new performance appraisal and awards forms, will be provided. All employees are encouraged to attend one of the briefings after receiving supervisory approval. An interpreter will be available at each session for the hearing impaired. Please share this e-mail message with employees who do not have access to e-mail.
