ESIC Point-of-Sale Cash register May 15, 1996 To: All USGS Employees in Reston From: John M. Kretlow, NMD Subject: ESIC Point-of-Sale Cash register As of Monday morning May 13th, the Reston Earth Science Information Center (ESIC) office inplemented a new Point-of-Sale Cash register system which allows the ESIC to maintain an accurate inventory of all maps, books, and CDs held for sale. It is therefore very important that USGS employees who get products from the ESIC document the description and quantity of EACH item taken on an Official Use form. For example, 10 maps charged to an internal account should be documented as follows: name, state, scale, and quantity for each title. Official Use forms for this purpose are available in the ESIC at the front counter. By maintaining accurate inventory records, the ESIC will be able to cut down on out-of-stock items and can work more effectively to provide products to our customers. If you have any questions about these changes, please speak to one of the ESIC employees. We appreciate your patience during this transition.
