          of Water-Resources Investigations (TWRI) Book 5, 
          Chapter A4

The attached report was prepared by the U.S. Geological 
Survey to provide accurate and precise methods for the 
collection and analysis of aquatic biological and micro-
biological samples.  

The subject report supersedes TWRI Book 5, Chapter A4, 
published in 1977, entitled "Methods for Collection and 
Analysis of Aquatic Biological and Microbiological Samples" 
edited by P.E. Greeson and others.  It also supersedes "A 
Supplement to--Methods for Collection and Analysis of Aquatic 
Biological and Microbiological Samples" by P.E. Greeson (TWRI 
Book 5, Chapter A4), Open-File Report 79.1279, 1979.

Additional copies are available from the Books and Open-File 
Reports Section, U.S. Geological Survey, Federal Center, 
Box 25425, Denver, Colorado  80225.  

Also available from the Books and Open-File Reports Section 
is Book 3, Chapter A18, "Determination of Stream Reaeration 
Coefficients by Use of Tracers," which was released in 1989 
and supplements material in Book 5, Chapter A4.
