PROGRAMS AND PLANS - Research Project: Analytical Methods of Water Chemistry
July 13, 1960
QUALITY OF WATER BRANCH MEMORANDUM NO. 61.1
To: District Chiefs and Staff Officials
Quality of Water Branch
From: Chief, Quality of Water Branch
Subject: PROGRAMS AND PLANS - Research Project: Analytical
Methods of Water Chemistry
Research and development of new and improved analytical
methods and techniques have been conducted in the Washington
area for the past several years, first under Mr. Thatcher and
later under Mr. Magin. As these men are now on other
assignments, we have consolidated this activity with research
on spectrographic techniques under the direction of Mr.
Marvin Skougstad in Denver.
Mr. Skougstad has been designated Project Leader of the
project "Analytical methods--Water chemistry." The approach
to methodology will be broadened to include chromatographic
and spectrographic techniques, in addition to the
gravimetric, flame photometric, potentiometric and other
methods more commonly used.
Research on methods of analysis at other locations will be
continued as appropriate, provided it is conducted in
accordance with the information provided in my memorandum of
November 18, 1957.
