GROUND WATER BRANCH TECHNICAL MEMORANDUM NO. 71.03
Subject: PUBLICATIONS--"The Theory of Ground-Water Motion and
Related Papers," by M. King Hubbert.
Transmitted herewith for your District technical library is a copy
of the recent publication by M. King Hubbert titled "The Theory of
Ground-Water Motion and Related Papers." All district personnel
concerned with ground water should be familiar with the contents
of this book. In addition to Hubbert's classic paper on "The
Theory of Ground-Water Motion," this reprint includes two of his
related papers and also selected pages from the extremely rare
"Les Fontaines Publiques de la Ville de Dijon" in which Henry
Darcy describes his 1856 experiments that established the
relationship subsequently known as Darcy's law.
As one principal reference source on basic concepts of the physics
of ground-water flow, we hope this volume will become your most
"dog-eared" reference work.
