LEGAL - States having laws requiring submittal of water-well records. UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR GEOLOGICAL SURVEY Water Resources Division Washington 25, D.C. In reply refer to: January 8, 1958 Code 4053 0001 GROUND WATER BRANCH MEMORANDUM NO. 58.24 To: District Chiefs and Staff Officials, Ground Water Branch From: Chief, Ground Water Branch, Washington, D.C. Subject: LEGAL - States having laws requiring submittal of water- well records. From time to time a manufacturer of well-drilling or pumping equipment requests information as to the number, depth, and type of wells drilled each year, depth to water, etc., in the entire country, in order to evaluate the market for its products. Obviously, we do not have complete data on these points, and so far as we know there is no agency that does. In the absence of an overall survey of the whole country, it seems probably that the best information along these lines could be obtained from the State agencies responsible for collecting well records, in States having laws requiring the submittal of such data. We have no complete list of such States and agencies. Therefore, it will be appreciated if each district office will fill out the blanks on the attached sheet and return it to this office through the Branch Area Chief. If no law requiring submittal of water-well records exists, please so state in order that we may have a complete report. Supplementary comments and information also would be appreciated. The Branch Area Chiefs should report on States, such as Illinois, where we have no cooperation. (s) A. N. Sayre Attachment Distribution: A, B, GS, GFO
