These data were released prior to the October 1, 2016 effective date for the USGS’s policy dictating the review, approval, and release of scientific data as referenced in USGS Survey Manual Chapter 502.8 Fundamental Science Practices: Review and Approval of Scientific Data for Release. City locations for all places in the TIGER files; this file was extracted from dbf files posted on the internet by the Bureau of the Census. Purpose

This coverage should be useful for labeling city locations on national or local maps. Publication graphics where point locations of cities are needed. The main use of this data in plotting would be to select points by population and label those points with the city name. For example, in ARCPLOT: RESELECT PLACES POINT MAPEX RESELECT PLACES POINT POP100 gt 50000 POINTS PLACES POINTTEXT PLACES NAME
