Summary

These data were released prior to the October 1, 2016 effective date for the USGS’s policy dictating the review, approval, and release of scientific data as referenced in USGS Survey Manual Chapter 502.8 Fundamental Science Practices: Review and Approval of Scientific Data for Release. This data set describes water use in counties in the conterminous United States in 1995. This data set can be used to look at spatial patterns of water use. U.S. county boundaries were developed at a scale of approximately 1:2 million.

Purpose

This data set is a spatial representation of water use in the United States. This data set was created for use in the analysis of ground-water quality data on volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Water-Quality Assessment Program (NAWQA) VOC National Synthesis Team.
