Summary

These data were released prior to the October 1, 2016 effective date for the USGS’s policy dictating the review, approval, and release of scientific data as referenced in USGS Survey Manual Chapter 502.8 Fundamental Science Practices: Review and Approval of Scientific Data for Release. This geodatabase includes spatial datasets that represent the Cambrian-Ordovician aquifer system in the States of Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, and Illinois. Included are: (1) a polygon dataset that represents the aquifer system extent, (2) raster datasets for the altitude of each aquifer subunit, (3) altitude, or if applicable, thickness contours used to generate the surface rasters, (4) georeferenced images of the figures that were digitized [...]

Purpose

These data were combined into a geodatabase as part of the Saline Groundwater Assessment Program datasets, collected under the auspices of the USGS Office of Groundwater to be used to investigate the locations of usable inland brackish and saline groundwater across the United States. The USGS National Water-Quality Assessment Project (NAWQA) also assisted with support, which enabled the data to be published in the USGS National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) Node archive, and therefore available for use by the public.
