Project Summary: New Mexico State University scientists working with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in the U.S. and abroad will use their expertise in statistical climatology, hydrology, GIS, remote sensing, water resource economics, modeling, and policy analysis to improve the scientific research, capacity building, and applications of the USGS component Water Resources Studies in Iraq. NMSU will focus on estimating timed crop water relationships, with emphasis on monitoring and forecasting the natural and human inputs to food production. Research will address improved monitoring of surface water, rainfall, crop modeling, and quantifying the connection between water, irrigated land rehabilitation, development of reservoir storage, crop prices, farm production costs, and farm net income.
