Abstract
The unconfined aquifer, also known as the Columbia aquifer, is arguably the most important water resource in Sussex County. It is the aquifer most commonly used as a source of water by domestic, irrigation, and public supply wells. The Columbia is the source of all base flow in streams. All ground water in deeper confined aquifers has flowed through the Columbia aquifer. State and federal water resources researchers and managers need the best current information to be made available in geographic information system (GIS) and database formats.
