Abstract
Open system metabolism (also known as community, or ecosystem metabolism) studies will be performed at multiple sites within the lower Truckee River Basin. Changes in dissolved oxygen at the upper and lower boundaries of selected river reaches will be compared and integrated with data obtained from ongoing biomass and water quality monitoring programs. The by-product of the proposed study will be critical system-specific data for algal growth and productivity in a periphyton-dominated system for eventual inclusion in a water quality model.
