Major Accomplishments and Future Directions in Public Health Microbiology

The workshop, sponsored by the Office of Water Quality, National Water-Quality Assessment Program, and the USGS Ohio District will include presentations and discussions regarding USGS activities with public health microbiology related to research, source tracking, and monitoring. Submitted papers and invited speakers will address the following areas:
- Pathogens and indicator studies
- Source tracking and chemical indicators of fecal contamination
- Recreational water quality
- Ground-water and drinking-water assessments
- Tracking antibiotic resistance in the environment
- Bacteria and pathogens associated with sediments
- Design and implementation of regional and national programs
- Monitoring the effects of combined- and sanitary-sewer overflows and septic
