Project area general description

The state of Minnesota

Are any areas excluded?

Yes there are areas of the Mississippi River that are exclueded due to errors in drainage area processing within StreamStats. There are also areas along the border with Canada that have exclusionary boundaries along the Rainy River.

The USGS National Elevation Dataset was used for delineating basins in neighboring states. and 30-meter Minnesota Department of Natural Resources resampled down to 10-meter

Hydrography source

The stream trace data used to force mapped drainage patterns was the “DNR 24K Streams” from the MNDNR (2009) Data Deli. The MNDNR streams layer was modified to ensure correct directionality and checked to ensure that there were no streams crossing Level 6 HUs or MNDNR lakeshed boundaries.

From National Wetlands Inventory (NWI) data (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, 2008). NWI data were extracted for the basin for each gaging station to estimate the percentage of lake area in each basin. Lake area included all NWI polygons classified as ‘Lacustrine.
