Welcome to the National SW Conference and Hydroacoustics Workshop

Instructions for Moderators and Speakers for Surface Water and Hydroacoustics Sessions

Call for Abstracts

Submit an Abstract

The 2007 USGS National Surface Water Conference and Hydroacoustic Workshop will feature 24 technical sessions related to surface-water hydrology and hydraulics and 24 technical sessions related to hydroacoustics and 2 poster sessions.

Abstract Submission Information

Authors may choose to submit abstracts for oral or poster presentations. Abstracts should be submitted electronically by January 17, 2007 and limited to 250 words. Abstracts must include the title of the poster or oral presentation, author(s) and affiliation(s), suggested conference themes from the list below, and a corresponding author or contact. Abstracts submitted by USGS personnel do not require USGS Director's approval, as there will be no published proceedings to be distributed outside of the USGS. Note: we believe it is always good practice to have written material peer reviewed, even if it is not going to be Director approved. It is good practice and will very likely help screen some questionable submissions.

Not all abstracts can be accepted for oral presentation, but everyone should be able to participate in one of the poster sessions. Authors of abstracts selected for presentation will be notified by January 19, 2007. Please note that in some cases abstracts submitted for consideration as oral presentations maybe selected for presentation as a poster and submissions for posters might be encourage to give an oral presentation.

Here are some Suggested Guidelines for Abstracts
(You may use this MS-Word document as a template for your abstract.)

Technical Presentations

Session themes will include methods development and application, programatic planning, Water Science Center innovations, network management and operations, and policy guidance. Technical sessions span 90 minutes during which typically 3 speakers will present for 20 minutes followed by a 10 minute question and answer period. Session moderators are expected to vigorously enforce time limits on presentations.

Poster Sessions

Submit an Abstract

Two poster sessions and receptions will be held as part of the 2007 National Surface Water Conference and Hydroacoustics Workshop:

Hydroacoustic Poster Session and Welcome Reception

This session will feature a welcome reception and posters on all aspects of hydroacoustics use in the USGS.

Surface Water Poster Session and Farewell Reception

This session will include posters highlighting ongoing or recent surface-water studies and methods. This poster session and reception will also serve as the official close to the national conference.

Conference attendees are invited to roam among the posters and speak to the authors while enjoying the refreshments offered at each reception. The poster sessions will provide attendees an excellent opportunity to share ideas in a relaxed setting.

Posters showcasing innovative, creative, or unique ideas, methods, or instrumentation are being sought. Poster topics can include those in the general call for papers or any other topic relevant to surface-water information acquisition, analysis, or understanding. A poster display stand will be provided. Special request for additional equipment should be submitted well in advance of the conference (see guidelines for poster sessions).
