02169500 CONGAREE RIVER AT COLUMBIA, SC
LOCATION - Lat 33°59'35", long 81°03'00" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Lexington County, SC, Hydrologic Unit 03050110, on right bank at Columbia, 1,000 ft downstream from Gervais Street Bridge, 1.4 mi downstream from confluence of Broad and Saluda Rivers, and at mile 174.8.
DRAINAGE AREA - 7,850 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - Discharge for the period Nov. 17, 2018, to Oct. 7, 2019, was revised on Apr. 2, 2020, based on changes to the stage-discharge rating.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1939 to current year. Gage-height records collected at site 1,000 ft upstream October 1891 to December 1933 and at present site since January 1934 are contained in reports of National Weather Service.
GAGE - Data collection platform. Datum of gage is 112.14 ft above NAVD of 1988.
REMARKS - Gage-height records are generally good to fair. Discharge records are generally good to fair except for estimated discharges, which are poor. Additional details on the accuracy of the records can be obtained by contacting the USGS South Atlantic Water Science Center at gs-w-sc_nwisweb_data_inquiries@usgs.gov.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge since October 1891, about 364,000 ft³/s, Aug. 27, 1908, from rating curve extended logarithmically above 150,000 ft³/s; gage height, 39.8 ft, present datum, based on floodmarks from records of the U.S. Weather Bureau at site 1,000 ft upstream and at datum 4.0 ft higher.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - (From electronic record:) Maximum instantaneous discharge 185,000 cfs, Oct. 4, 2015. Maximum instantaneous gage height 31.83 ft, Oct. 4, 2015. Minimum daily mean discharge, 576 cfs, Aug. 24, 2007.
