General Information

Description of the proposed study on factor affecting occurrence and distribution of selected contaminants in ground water in the Valley and Ridge Physiographic Province

The purpose of this study is to characterize and document water quality (pesticides, VOCs, nutrients, major ions, radon and bacteria) in the Valley and Ridge aquifers. Sites that have been resampled will be evaluated to determine trends. Geologic settings will be analyzed to determine the affects of general rock type (carbonate and siliciclastic) and specific lithology (limestone, dolomite, argillaceous carbonate rock, sandstone and shale) on water quality. Topographic setting (distance from ridge or valley center) will be analyzed to determine potential affects of the position on flowpath on water quality. Structural setting (position with respect to anticline or syncline) will also be evaluated to determine potential affects on water quality.
