Some VOCs, such as chloroform, persist under oxic conditions and degrade under anoxic conditions. Other VOCs, such as toluene, persist under anoxic conditions and degrade under oxic conditions. This figure illustrates the importance of redox conditions and how the degradation of a specific VOC relates to the detection frequency of that compound. The illustration shown is based upon figure 45 of SIR 2008-5240.
