PESTICIDE MANAGEMENT IN THE
LOWER KANSAS RIVER BASIN (Map Area 37)
In the Lower Kansas River Basin, NAWQA
findings on the occurrence and temporal distribution of atrazine (a
herbicide widely used in the production of corn and soybean) in
water-supply reservoirs were used by the Kansas State Board of Agriculture
as the basis for establishing a pesticide management area in northern
Kansas. The management area is the first in the Nation that focuses on
reducing the amount of atrazine in runoff to streams and reservoirs.
