Summary

These data were released prior to the October 1, 2016 effective date for the USGS’s policy dictating the review, approval, and release of scientific data as referenced in USGS Survey Manual Chapter 502.8 Fundamental Science Practices: Review and Approval of Scientific Data for Release. This dataset consists of a workspace (folder) containing four gridded datasets and a personal geodatabase. The gridded datasets are a grid of mean annual precipitation, a grid of forest land cover, and region grids used in the Idaho StreamStats application. One region grid is for peak flow estimates, the other is for low flows, mean annual flows, and monthly flow statistics. The personal geodatabase contains a polygon feature class of exclusion polygons, [...]

Purpose

The forest and precipitation grids are used to compute percent forested area and mean annual precipitation, respectively, for basins that have been edited by the user within the StreamStats web application. The same grids were used to compute continuous parameter grids for percent forested area and mean annual precipitation. The continuous parameter grids are distributed with the ArcHydroHUC data sets for each 8-digit HUC, and provide percent forested area and mean annual precipitation estimates for unedited basins. The region grids are used to identify which regional regression equations to apply for estimating streamflow statistics in Idaho. The exclusion polygons are used to restrict or prevent use of the StreamStats application in areas where results may be invalid, or where its use is to be prevented for various reasons.
