Summary

These data were released prior to the October 1, 2016 effective date for the USGS’s policy dictating the review, approval, and release of scientific data as referenced in USGS Survey Manual Chapter 502.8 Fundamental Science Practices: Review and Approval of Scientific Data for Release. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, an estimated 258 million people nationwide, or 86% of the U.S. population, relied on public water supplies for their household use in 2005 (USGS, 2013). The remaining population obtains their water from different sources, such as a domestic self-supply well. However, the spatial distribution of water supply systems has not been compiled. Purpose

This dataset shows the geographic distribution of water supply throughout the Delaware River Basin extent. The data is broken down by Census block group shapes for the year 2000. This dataset was developed as part of a U.S. Geological Survey study regarding the water use throughout the Delaware River Basin. It is used to spatially show where the domestic self-supplied water users resided for this Census year.
