Services provided by the Hydrologic Instrumentation Facility

Sales/Rentals

The HIF sells and rents hydrologic equipment to meet the hydrologic data collection needs of the USGS as well as other federal and state agencies. Over 1,000 items are available through the HIF including mechanical and acoustic velocity meters, non-recording gages, pressure sensors, streamgaging equipment, data loggers and data collection platforms, sediment samplers, and water quality systems.

Customers have the option to rent much of our stock. Our rental program allows customers to try new instruments with little investment, low monthly rates and offers free repairs, calibrations, and insurance for equipment damaged or lost due to natural disasters, theft, or vandalism. The rental option is also ideal for customers with short-term projects or emergency needs.

All of the equipment supplied by the HIF is subjected to quality assurance testing, ensuring that our customers receive instruments that meet manufacturer's specifications and any applicable USGS requirements. The HIF also accepts requests for certain equipment configurations and modifications depending on a customers’ needs. Field personnel can also receive technical support and troubleshooting assistance for HIF equipment.
