About the Hydrologic Instrumentation Facility

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) collects information needed to understand the Nation's water resources, and provides access to water data, publications, and maps, as well as to recent water projects and events. The Hydrologic Instrumentation Facility supports these activities through our warehouse and laboratory facilities. The HIF warehouse provides hydrologic instrumentation hardware, software, and related supplies for USGS as well as other Federal agencies (OFA). Support is also provided through development, testing, evaluation, repair, calibration, and quality control of hydrologic instrumentation. The HIF laboratory facilities consist of a towing tank, jet tank, pipe flow facility, and tilting flume. These facilities are available to USGS, OFA, State and local agencies, academic facilities and private industry.
